Tango Styling with Raquel Greenberg
A couple of weeks ago I did a tango styling workshop with Raquel Greenberg. While she can’t be considered a newcomer by any stretch of the imagination (she has been a regular visitor to the UK and knows the European circuit well), she has decided to make London into her base and we chatted for a while after the class.
Confident of her own knowledge and skill, with every move elegantly executed, she plans her classes to help people progress from one level to the next. I’d rather the class just concentrate one move and the technique behind properly but know that I’m in a small minority. While I’m not brilliant at any of the dances I’ve learned and don’t have the time to do any of them justice, I’d still rather get one or two aspects right once I’ve got enough down for a general feel.
Raquel’s workshop was nicely structured, clearly explained and clearly demonstrated. Reassuringly, she was also flexible enough in her approach to respond to the abilities, needs and ambitions of those in the class so we all benefited far more than if she had simply moved doggedly through her planned set of technique-based exercises.
That said, both Raquel’s teaching technique and character gel well and I was thrilled to hear her talk of the languages of dance as for me that’s what it’s all about.
Raquel is giving Tango Boosters at Sadler’s Wells between Christmas and New Year. I wrote this for Dance Today and you can find more information on her own site..
