What a wonderful last formal assignment before Christmas! A performance of Unwritten, produced and arranged by Joanna of One Youth Dance. The idea of Unwritten was to create new work that the company’s choreographers may never have created before, and the reasoning behind this is best heard in Joanna’s words. “It is easy to slip into stereotypical themes, music and movement, using the same dancers, dancing to the same type of song, with the same style of choreography. Unwritten is an opportunity to break the mold and try something that has never been tried before. For One Youth Dance that is creating work to music without any words, and creating work that tackles hard hitting issues, as in the past we have always danced to mainstream songs, with mainstream themes etc.”

As I’m recently out of hospital I wasn’t able to go to the second performance but despite the fact that I’m still kind of muzzy (presumably due to the painkillers I was given at the Royal Marsden) I think I have enough good shots for both Joanna and the dancers.
