Idrissa Camara presents Sagatala in Exposure, the ADAD Trailblazers Showcase at The Place, London, (c) Carole Edrich 2014
Sagatala looks at the socially constructed dominant masculine identity, passed from father to son, mentor to student, its expectation for strength and action. Juxtaposed in this is the individual’s vulnerability in a society with so much political and social uncertainty and a poverty fo opportunities for young people. Exploring the traditional role of initiation and how these ideologies function as a guide on how tobe (or not to be) a man. Danced and choreographed by Idrissa Camara and Oumar Almamy Camara
Knowing your background and seeing the setting, the photo is obviously dance related. However, what my mind sees in this are two men wrestling. After this is in my head I read your caption and I think the dance depicts the topic well and your photos capture that.
