Today the dance quote comes from Francis Bacon’s philosophical works of 1733. In ‘The Advancement of Learning’ as he discusses words, grammar and the way that words sound, Francis Bacon says; “yet in modern languages it seemeth to me, as free to make new measures of verses as dances, for a dance is a measured pace as a verse is a measured speech.
