Dancer from Gala Flamenco, Sadler’s Wells Flamenco Festival and quote from Suzanne Farrell, (c) Carole Edrich 2015

“There is pain and sacrifice in everyone’s world. That’s why when I was dancing I had no pain.” is by Suzanne Farrell. Born Roberta Sue Flicker in Cincinnati in 1945 she trained in a number of dance forms at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. It is said that at that time she preferred tap dance to ballet partly because she was given the male roles and partly because, as she said, she could hear her own movements. Many consider her to be the greatest American lyric ballerina.

I will be posting a dance photograph and dance quote and a little related history every Friday this year. If you would like your favourite quote included then please let me know.
