The dance is a poem..

Quote from Mata Hari and shot of dancer from Milo Miles’ Cabaret
‘The dance is a poem of which each movement is a word’ is attributed to Mata Hari (1876-1917).
Margaretha Geertruida “Margreet” MacLeod was a Dutch Frisian exotic dancer who was convicted of being a spy and executed by firing squad in France during Word War One. The path from privileged child to courtesan spy started when she answered an advertisement in a Dutch newspaper placed by Dutch Colonial Army Captain Rudolf MacLeod. They married in Amsterdam and moved to Java where the marriage didn’t work, and Margaretha found a sort of escape by studying the local customs and dance in detail. After divorce, her husband did not support her as had been agreed and she started working as a circus horse rider in 1903 and exotic dancer in 1905.
