If I don’t [dance] I will crumble

Quote by Nureyev on image of Jean Abreu in ‘Blood’
This week I have chosen the quote; ‘I really have to dance more often, and so I travel around. If I don’t, I will crumble’ from Nureyev.
In February 1962 Rudolf Khametovich Nureyev (1938-1993) and Margot Fonteyne first performed Giselle at the Royal Opera House. It marked the beginning of a unique, world famous partnership and was so overwhelming that the audience was silent before erupting and then demanding 23 curtain calls. The fear of being abducted by the KGB was a constant part of his life and he nearly didn’t go to Paris to apply for his second Carnet because of that fear.
I post a dance photograph and dance quote and a related fact or two every Friday. If you would like your favourite dance quote to be included let me know.
